Students in grades 4-8 performed classic and original poetry, essays, and speeches surrounding the theme of "Freedom and Democracy" at the 4th Annual Literacy Event, "Life, Liberty and Literacy." The following original writings cover a broad spectrum of themes, from historical injustice and predjudice to modern day activism and identity. 

"A Letter to Vincent Gray" addresses the lack of youth programming in Ward 8

"Just Because" explores perception and prejudice

"Integrate" tells the story of one student's Grandmother and her experiences during the Civil Rights Movement

"Feel the Song" is a haiku
