As part of an initiative to enhance the use of technology in the classroom, WSG has recently accepted a generous donation of iPad2s, courtesy of the TDF Foundation. Since 2008, the TDF Foundation has brought Broadband Access to over forty thousand Americans in unserved and/or underserved communities, and has supported numerous technology initiatives in schools.
Students will use the iPads in all subject areas, with an emphasis on Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics. The iPads provide a convenient platform for interactive learning, and help students learn how to effectively use technology tools to guide their learning. WSG is committed to developing 21st century learners who are adept using and learning new technologies.
This donation comes after a pilot program was conducted with e-readers in 2013 sponsored by the Junior League of Washington. During the pilot program, the Reading Specialist used Android-based tablets for guided reading support, increasing student engagement and reading performance. In expanding the program, WSG sought to transition to iPad2s due to the broad range of educational applications that are available on the platform.
